The Internship Program at DG&A

Our internship program is a hands on learning experience where college students shadow our recruiters, client managers, and management team. Each intern has the unique opportunity to grow with the company in a safe and professional environment. Our interns often seek school credit with the successful completion of our goal-oriented program. They find meaningful value in the firm as they realize that what they do helps to improve the company in a major way. Here are some first-hand accounts from members of the Summer Program in 2016.

Christina Sztochmal is a recent graduate from Loyola University of Chicago where she majored in Communication Studies with a minor is Political Science.

Q: What were your responsibilities this summer at DG&A?

ChristinaChristina: As a marketing intern at DG&A, my responsibilities included creating, evaluating, and implementing a marketing strategy, creating various media for articles to be posted into the company website, drafting a monthly newsletter that outlines the company’s monthly accomplishments and sending it out to our large network of over 2.6 million individuals in HR. I was responsible for adding appropriate tags so as to make Google searches more efficient, determining the needs of company leaders (CEO and VP) in terms of future posts, conducting necessary research, and sending out all content via social media.

Q: What did you learn from your experience this summer?

Christina: Discipline is the key to success. Changing from a controlled university environment to the freedom of flexible hours in an office challenged my ability to discipline myself.

Q: Any advice for future interns?

Christina: Work extremely hard and do the best you can. DG&A provides an incredible environment for students willing to dedicate their time and accomplish their goals.

Will Mann is a junior at Loyola University of Baltimore, MD, majoring in Political Science and Economics. He is a member of the Men’s Lacrosse Team and interested in law and business.

Q: How did you end up choosing your major?

Will: I chose my major (Political Science) because for as long as I can remember politics has willintrigued me and I have always felt a passion for it. I feel that it is such an important subject to be knowledgeable on.

Q: When did you decide to choose an Internship at DG&A?

I decided to intern at DG&A my second semester of school last year. I had been considering a couple of other internships, but found that DG&A seemed like a perfect company to start my business career at. I really liked the smaller size of the company and the atmosphere that resonated throughout the office.

Q: What did you learn from your experience this summer?

Will: I guess more than anything I learned how the business world works. This being my first internship, I only had a narrow view of what I thought business was like. DG&A has helped give me an in depth view on the process of business development, sales, and the criteria needed to be hirable in the business world.

Q: Do you feel that DG&A has prepared you for your future career?

Will: I absolutely feel that DG&A has prepared me for whatever future career I might pursue. It has helped me to understand what it takes to be successful at selling and what credentials I will need to give myself the best chance of being hired in the future.

Q: What was most beneficial about your internship at DG&A?

Will: Learning the process and strategy to selling and pitching has been the most beneficial part of my internship at DG&A. I feel these skills are invaluable and will benefit me for the rest of my life.

Q: What were your responsibilities this summer at DG&A?

Will: Producing Market Analysis pitch books, screening candidates, and establishing target strategies. Also developing a client-facing presentation for the firm to portray their success in appointing, hiring & retaining executives for Business Development.

Q: How did you feel while you were an intern at DG&A?

Will: I felt valuable to the company and a part of the DG&A’s success. I also felt like I was a part of a family that was always there to push, help, and encourage me.

Q: What’s going to be your inspiration to perform better next time?

Will: My inspiration would be to try to outdo what I did this summer in the future. I know I have worked hard and been productive, but in  the future I will use this summer as a benchmark and challenge myself to exceed the standards set at DG&A.

Riley Mann is a third year Economics major at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He is a student athlete and member of the Georgetown University Lacrosse Team.

Q: What did you learn from your experience this summer?Riley

Riley: I learned a lot about the business world from great mentors in my bosses David and Chris. Dave’s experience and wisdom in his successful career, coupled with Chris’s young bright modern approach to business, are a testament to why DG&A has been a premier firm for over 35 years.

Q: Do you feel that DG&A has prepared you for your future career?

Riley: DG&A has instilled in me the values and character of a business environment, while providing a promising foundation for any future career I wish to pursue.

Q: What was most beneficial about your internship at DG&A?

Riley: Again, the experience of leadership through the exposure of coaching, business modules, and unconditional support has been the most beneficial part of my internship at DG&A.

Q: What was your first thought when you finished your internship?

Riley: In retrospect, my first thought was what’s it going to be like transitioning from a formal work environment to a sometimes hectic college life. I am excited and optimistic about taking what DG&A has taught me and applying it to my life at school.

Q: What’s going to be your inspiration to perform better next time?

Riley: My inspiration to perform better next time is that I have realized that I myself have all the potential in the world and that my career is contingent upon what I make of it. “Success isn’t owned, it’s leased, and rent is due every day.” – J.J. Watt.

Zaryab Abbasi is a recent graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communication and was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity. He participated in our internship program last year and is a newly hired employee.

Q: What did you learn from your experience last summeZr?

Zaryab: I learned what goes on in the typical day and work week of a recruiter. Through working closely with various staff members, I was able to see the entire process for a search and get an in-depth understanding of how to conduct searches in the most effective and efficient ways possible.

Q: What was most beneficial about your internship at DG&A?

Zaryab: Getting the professional experience was nice, but what really made the internship worthwhile for me was feeling like I was making a difference in everything I did. As an intern, you get to see the entire process from start to finish; you literally get to see how the work you put in helps the firm to accomplish its strategic and financial targets.

Q: What was your first thought when you finished your internship?

Zaryab: My first thought was that the internship helped me to gain a new perspective and I was excited to apply my professional experience to my academics.

Q: What’s going to be your inspiration to perform better next time?

Zaryab: Now that I work for the firm, I am inspired by all the effort and quality work of the employees here. I am also learning about the sales process, and on track to becoming a Client Manager and Principal of the firm.
